mcr profile
Just when it appeared that rock and roll was dead in coffee-shop ridden
Ann Arbor, Fred Thomas stormed onto
the
scene
with his outstanding song-writing and great guitar chops. Thomas
assembled
the musical collective known as Saturday Looks Good To Me in
1999.
Over fifteen musicians are a part of the Saturday crew and the
live
performances cast ranges from a trio with Thomas out front to a
stage-full
of musicians wielding a variety of instruments. The band's sound has a
heavy Beach Boys influence with a touch of punk rock coming
from Thomas'
musical past.
SLGTM released their first album in 2000 - a
vinyl-only
limited pressing. Ypsilanti Records picked up the album, added some
bonus tracks and
re-released it on CD in 2002. In 2003, the Illinois-based Polyvinyl
Record Co. recruited the band to make a second full-length. The record,
All Your Summer Songs was put together
piece-by-piece
with a variety of collobrations including vocals from Ted Leo and Outrageous Cherry's Matthew O. Smith. The album
found some airplay on MTV shows and landed the band a slot at New
York's CMJ Music Festival. --Ryan Sult
