Clone Defects
Seventies punk rock still hasn’t died in Detroit, Mich. Whether you’re a fan or not, you’ve got to admit that the Clone Defects embody an old-school rock & roll ethic that’s pretty darn admirable. That means ‘let the Pabst flow and turn er’ up.’ This band is not one of the self-pomotin’, latter-climbin’ persuasion. They do their thing, and if you like it, great, and if you don’t, well that’s too damn bad. Timmy Vulgar even had to be talked into doing a publicity photo for the Detroit MetroTimes once.
They released their first singles in 1999 on the Ypsilanti-based Tom Perkins Records and Dave Buick’s Italy Records. Timmy Vulgar produced and engineered virtually all of the Clone Defects recordings except for a couple singles which were recorded by Jack White and then mixed by Timmy along with Jim Diamond. In 2003, they recorded Shapes of Venus at Ghetto Recorders.
Timmy Vulgar also fronts the band Human Eye.
