The guy who uncreative assholes would define as Santa Claus returned to Metro Detroit May 15th and played The Loving Touch with fellow touring band, Bobby Conn.

As probably expected, Lord Scrummage played a solid 25 minute set beforehand, although I wish they brought back the person in the green spandex suit. There’s nothing like a revealing outfit accompanied by an apparent penis to sweeten an event.

Although Bobby Conn technically headlined the evening, the general crowd clearly was anticipating R. Stevie Moore, nonetheless they managed to keep easily most of the crowd’s attention. It was a pleasant surprise to witness a short man in eyeliner and platform shoes lead an odd funk and almost new wave-sounding band which included a violin player. As it was a record release tour for them, their new album “Macaroni” was played in its entirety and then some, which probably would have been well worth the purchase, yet unfortunately here in Michigan, records and beer are both exchanged for the same currency. Even though they played for roughly an hour, their sound managed to not go stale.

Usually when a larger 60 year old man is spotted drinking a bottle of wine while wearing a pair of licensed red Monopoly pants, us fellows hold our significant others just a tad tighter. In this case, when they rock as hard as R. Stevie Moore does, we still wouldn’t feel honored to lend our naked and willing sweethearts to him, but maybe the thought of it isn’t nearly as depressing. The decades of music production really showed through with his energy and relative song variety. R. Stevie Moore’s tunes were rather unpredictable while being surprisingly catchy. Even if it was disappointing that he only played for a maximum of 45 minutes, my eight dollars were well paid off. If my father could pick his nose then lick his finger on stage while seeming to maintain a solid knowledge of current humor and underground culture like R. Stevie Moore, he could run a pretty penny on the ole’ slave market.

If you’re interested in getting a better idea of how the show went, you’re in luck!

On Saturday, October 22nd the Occupy group in Windsor showed their solidarity with Detroit when both groups marched to the riverfront to greet one another.

Not everything has to consist of serious political matters as a wedding also took place the very same day. Musicians playing a trombone, accordion, and even a mandolin aided in the celebration. Cake and drinks were served in LAX, the night club which has been assisting Occupy Detroit the entire way.

Keep in mind the next General Assembly will be this Tuesday, October 25th at 6 pm.

The website, which was still being improved upon in the past, is now operating much more smoothly.

A march against foreclosures will also occur Tuesday, October 18th at noon with the goal of delivering a letter “enumerating grievances and and demanding a moratorium on foreclosure and foreclosure-related evictions” to the Bank of American building at 500 Griswold. There will be a follow up demonstration, or the ‘main’ one, on Friday, October 21th at noon as well.
The immediate locations, “Central United Methodist Church” and “LAX Club Hangar” are offering their facilities to Occupiers, so bathrooms, wireless internet, and warmth is readily available. Other establishments have also been giving aid in various forms.

Despite the fact that it’s still under construction at the moment, the Occupy Detroit website, occupydetroit.us, will be the best place to look for updates in the very near future.

As an important reminder, the next General Assembly will take place Sunday, October 16th, at noon. The GA meetings following tomorrow have not yet been scheduled, however we expect that they should happen frequently.

While often known as ‘Motor City’ Moe Motyka, he was a rising musician beginning to gain popularity beyond the confines of places like Kelly’s Bar on Holbrook near Joseph Campau, where he practically seemed to perform every other evening. Perhaps one might have also known him from the “#1 Pawn Shop” in Hamtramck where he would price and manage instruments, or even from his work at Elite Tattooing.

To be honest, I know very little other than from people sharing their condolences online, but I felt it would be better to inform others rather than wait to find out more details, although I have been searching.

Someone did post on his facebook that his viewing will take place at Jurkiewicz Wilk Funeral Home this Sunday, 1-9 pm and his funeral will be on the following day, Monday, 10pm at St. Florian.

He may have been sort of business associate of mine, being that I had done filming for him on a couple of occasions, but I also considered him a friend and he will be missed. On another but positive note, I could have sworn he told me less than a week ago his album had been completed, so I hope to post a follow up on it.

Here’s a video I took of him early this year and it’s a damn good cover:

Moe Motyka Live at Paychecks

For whatever reason WordPress isn’t allowing me to embed this video.

*As an update, I’ve come to find out he was killed in a drive by shooting, although further details are unknown.

As you very well might know, the overall goal of this movement, which begun September, 17th in New York City, is to empower and push the ‘bottom 99 percent’ to take to the streets and demonstrate discontent with the greed, corruption, and the exacerbating problem of money being held by fewer and fewer (along with countless others grievances) occurring within our country. The website encourages “people from all colors, genders and beliefs” to demonstrate, and even though Wall Street is the epicenter for the protest, other cities holding an ‘Occupy’ event include Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, and soon Detroit.

It has not yet been decided where the congregation will exactly take place, but there will be a General Assembly meeting this Monday from 7-9 pm at the Spirit of Hope church on Martain Luther King Blvd (1519 MLK) and close the Trumbull (I’m sorry for giving the incorrect location earlier) where “suggestions for action” can be brought. This isn’t just a one day thing, and in fact, it’s prospective that it will last for weeks.

More information can be found on their website, or for the Detroit protest, the Facebook event.

Atari Teenage Riot will be blasting fascists and government officials alike with pounding bass and fury September, 27th at the Magic Stick.

Doors will be opening at the standard time of 8 pm and tickets are claimed to cost $25. The local industrial goth outfit, Dethlab, will be an opener, along with the well known breakcore artist Otto Von Schirach out of Miami.

Hailing from Berlin, ATR brought a new brand of music to the world in 1992. With a fusion of hard techno and punk, Alec Empire is accredited for coining the term “digital hardcore” to describe this sound which is still being used today. They had broken up in 2000 and after a decade, they reformed with apparent objectives. Their new album “Is This Hyperreal?” specifically deals with the internet war that has recently been taking receiving a lot of media coverage and they even refer to themselves as “Anonymous Teenage Riot” more than once.
