Top 5 w/ Jeff Howitt

This week we feature the progenitor of Loco Gnosis, the howler from Duende!, and all around everyman….Jeff Howitt. In two days, Duende has a vinyl single coming out via Bellyache Records that features re-workings of their hits “Boss Radio” and “Detroit J” with a plethora of special guests. A release show will be held at The Loving Touch Friday Night!!! Without anymore blathering, here is Howitt’s TOP 5:

THE FUGS

“You ask me about my philosophy, baby, yeah
Dope, peace, magic gods in
the tree trunks”
As a young man I wasn’t so much looking for guidance but responding to
inspiration. I would give days off my life to be able to see them as
they were then.

THE MAKE-UP

Ian Svenonius definitely holds the bar, the gun and the door open for
me in performance and revolutionary content. His current band Chain &
The Gang are playing Thursday at The Loving Touch this Thursday. I
don’t know if Richie from Lo & Behold is still drumming with them but
he’ll be there playing with Danny & The Darleans who open the show. If
you haven’t, do yourself a favor and DO!

THE SADIES

DUENDE! played with these guys in ’08 and they’ve been rock & roll
buddies ever since. They’ve backed up on record and the stage Neko
Case, John Doe, Heavy Trash (Jon Spencer), Andre Williams and Neil
Young most recently. Canada’s most charming and best dressed export.

AMY GORE & HER VALENTINES

I had caught some early Gore Gore Girls performances before I moved to
Phoenix late in ’99 with Carjack’s Earthly beacon Lo-Fi Bri but didn’t
catch up with the band again until ’07 when Laura (my love and drummer
for DUENDE!) and I saw them at Beauty Bar in Austin, TX and they were
all white leather and Gretsch guitars! Opening that show small worldly
were our rock & roll buddies to be Not In The Face who crashed at our
place their last few times through own. 5 years later we are helping
Amy Gore & Her Valentine’s celebrate their record release at PJ’s
Lager House (or LJ’s Pancake House & Grill?) on Oct. 13th. J. Walker &
the Crossing Guards open the evening. This footage is from their new
video debuting this week.

THE LAUGHING HYENAS

I will let this speak for itself.

Thanks To Jeff!
