REVIEW–All These Fingers: Archetypes & Windfalls/Lounge Physique

atf 295x300 REVIEW All These Fingers: Archetypes & Windfalls/Lounge Physique reviews album reviews After six total releases, All These Fingers (ATF) has instrumental hip-hop down.  Their latest release, Lounge Physique, comes hot on the heels of April’s Archetypes & Windfalls. While the album’s explore similar musical themes Archetypes & Windfalls is the evening and “Lounge Physique” the day. The sounds of the latter are just a little funkier—the organs and horns a shade brighter.

For maximum effect I suggest comparing “Wheeler” and “Ugly Teens”.  There is an obvious difference in tempo, but “Ugly Teens” is a methodical exploration of atmosphere whereas “Wheeler” is the celebration of atmosphere.

Subtle differences aside, both records are about head-nodding beats. On the two remixes from Lounge Physique—“Been Thinkin” and “Actin So Cold” (by Anna Blitz and Whoorish Boorish, respectively)—ATF has reworked the source material like a plastic surgeon. The melancholic eeriness of the originals remain but there is a little something extra; enhancement without disfigurement.

Both albums are available at Bandcamp and Soundcloud. Archetypes & Windalls was co-released with Grappa Frisbee Records.
