If there was a more brilliant pop lyricist than Magnetic Fields‘ Stephin Merritt I’ve yet to discover him or her. Best known for 1999′s epic 69 Love Songs album which spanned 69 delightful tracks (suggested reading: Magnetic Fields’ 69 Love Songs: A Field Guide (33 1/3)). A Magnetic Fields track ends up on nearly ever mix cd I make, and each album finds away to rip open loves old scars, pour salt in them, and slap me in the face. Love at the Bottom of the Sea will be out on March 6th from Merge Records and I’ve already pre-ordered my copy on vinyl (you should do the same!)
