Zodiac Killers
On September 28th, Electric Six will be releasing their 7th studio album Zodiac. This marks the fifth straight year that the band has released an album during the fall (starting with Switzerland in 2006). For a long time fan of the band such as myself, E6′s annual autumn release ranks right up their with college football, fall colors, Theatre Bizarre and local election coverage.
Though each passing album seems to be slightly weaker then the one before, it doesn’t really matter anymore (they have some tracks off Zodiac posted on their MySpace page.) All that matters is that these guys are hard at work, consistently touring and completely oblivious to mainstream radio. Electric Six may be one of the worst kept secrets in rock and that’s good for us. Yes the “rock world” knows that one song from way back when with that one guy, but “High Voltage” along with the internet 2.0 gave them the freedom to do whatever they wanted and on their own terms. Lucky for us their live shows are a total blast, they tour every fall/winter and you get every penny that you pay for. That’s why the recent announcement that Electric Six will be headlining this year’s Ferndale DIY Street Fair on Spet. 18th is so outstanding because the admission price is FREE. Now unfortunately, this means they’re skipping their somewhat annual Thanksgiving weekend performance at St. Andrews Hall (they’ll be in Europe), but that’s a small price to pay to see E6 under crisp, late summer Michigan stars.
NOTE: that’s not lead singer Dick Valentine on the Zodiac album cover artwork posted above.
