Fucking Awesome Fest II Recap & Reload – Friday
So last night was evening two of this year’s four night Fucking Awesome Fest at the Majestic Complex. Here are my thoughts, wants and wishes…
Cons: the sets were a little too short for a few of the bands (Noman, Zoos of Berlin), and the sound on the Magic Stick’s side stage seemed noticeably better then the main stage. Also, the overall festival poster felt very 2009 (dudes the Triceratops is no more - check science)
Pros: I dug Fawn (Kiddo meets Nice Device meets The Javelins), this was my first time seeing this newer local trio and from what I gathered they’ve gotten more tight as a unit (Matt Rickle is a pretty sweet drummer). Outrageous Cherry were nice and trippy hippy as usual, the members of Child Bite all found razors, and I thought that Chicago based garage rockers The Ponys made for a good closer.
Tonight: night three is poised to be the most interesting of this four night dunking debauchery. I’m bummed that there’s no deck party outside during the day like last year’s event because it’ll stop me from getting completely and totally wasted (it’s raining anyways). Looking forward to seeing the new-look Millions of Brazilians, the somewhat new look The Sights and the classic-look Greenhorns (2004 here we come). However, I’m gonna make sure to not let the cluster fuck traffic on Woodward make me miss The Hounds Below at 10 PM. I saw these guys and gal last month at the Pike Room in Pontiac opening for The Heavy and despite their utter lack of a Korean car commercial song, The Hounds clearly stole the show (it also helps that the bass player is sexy as hell on stage).
See ya all again tonight, I’ll be drinking one of those damn 24 ounce Miller High Life cans for $6.
