Hysteric Narcotics reunion, with Dan Kroha

February 4, 2010 by Steve Barman in Detroit Concerts with 0 Comments

For all the garage/psychedelic enthusiasts out there, and I know there’s a lot. You should head over to Paycheck’s lounge to see one of the classic acts in their favorite venue. The Hysteric Narcotics will be playing Saturday, Feb 6th. Also for the first time ever, the previously vinylized but as of yet not digitized in public Hysteric Narcotics will release a compact disc of mostly unavailable recordings, some out of print, some never released, some studio outtakes, and some live cuts. All of them recorded between 1983 and 1989. The disc will be available at the show.

History Lesson: It was in the early 1980s, when Paycheck played host to the first small, yet vital bunch of high-energy rock and rollers like the Hysteric Narcotics and the Vertical Pillows. While most Detroit-area bands at the time practiced in basements, bands like the HNs and the VPs, later the Gories, and a growing number of others heaved and hoed their way out of the metaphoric garage and onto the Paycheck’s stage and other stages in Hamtramck, the city where the local psych/garage movement had landed.
