nouvelle 300x203 Nouvelle Vague @ the Crofoot Thursday January 28 detroit concerts This Thursday, France’s bossa nova inspired cover machine Nouvelle Vague will be playing at the Crofoot in Pontiac. Their new album 3 is the most rich and differentiated of their work adding roots, country, and blues into the mix. On the new album there’s duets with the original singers including Martin Gore (Depeche Mode), Ian McCulloch (Echo and the Bunnymen), Terry Hall (the Specials), and Barry Adamson (Magazine).

Detroit Gorrilla made an excellent point on his post about the legitimacy of cover acts:

Elvis, Sinatra — these guys didn’t write songs — they intrepreted and reinterpreted the hell out of them. The Beatles had hits covering Motown, Motown had hits covering the Beatles. The Stone’s first three singles were written by Chuck Berry, Lennon/McCartney and Buddy Holly. In the Stone’s case, this allowed them to become established and find a songwriting voice of their own. But I think it’s fair to say, sometimes you only need an actual voice.

Motor City Rocks will be there to interview Nouvelle Vague as well. If you have any questions you’d like them to answer leave them in the comment section to this post! We’ll see you there!
