goob2idecoverql2 300x299 Goober & The Peas Return! detroit concerts Are you a funky cowboy? I knew it. I could tell by the way you talk. Do you spend your time staring out into the range of Detroit’s countless shades of brown and gray imagining ways you could let loose your grandpa and then hunt him down? Yes, I do as well. Do you love the water, but don’t know how to swim?

Does all this talk awaken in you something that’s been missing for about fifteen years? Well, fret no more. Goober and The Peas are reuniting for an all ages show to temper that cowboy inside and give you an excuse to yell “Yee-haw” at the top of your lungs.

If you are unaware of their music, don’t be afraid of the country motif. This is Detroit country, afterall. This means country with a dark, quirky edge to it. There’s a dissonance to their songs, whether in Dear Grandpa (which sounds like it was recorded in the forties) or in the screaming of Loose Lips.

Goober and The Peas formed in 1989, released two studio albums off their independent label Detroit Municipal Recordings, toured throughout the states, and then disbanded in 1995 after some of their members left the band. They’ve opened for Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The members in the band have played with or formed Blanche, The White Stripes, The Henchmen, The Go… Goober and The Peas’ musical life was like a lot of their music: short, fast, and satisfying.

One thing is for sure, though. This is a band that you need to see live. They’ll be playing December 26th at Saint Andrew’s Hall for the first time in fifteen years. So gear up for a night of cold beer, red hot women, and down-home Detroit rock!
