CMJ In The Age Of Aquarius
So this week is the annual Lower Manhattan music marathon that is CMJ. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, CMJ stands for College Music Journal. It’s manly a chart that collects what all of the college radio stations are playing and gives those same college radio stations guidance on what they should play (because there’s nothing like being unoriginal). Anyway, I’ve been to CMJ before. The marathon is a blast and back in the day when college radio was the king at breaking alt. rock acts, the record labels used to wine and dine all the students running those neat little radio stations. Now with internet, labels don’t have anymore money. Also, college radio is not what it use to be because of iPod and stuff. Anyway, my point here is there are a few Detroit area bands playing this year including Chris Bathgate, Computer Perfection, Deastro and Lightning Love, so you might want to think about hopping on a plane to JFK this afternoon.
FYI: I’m sure there are more Detroit bands playing but I’m too lazy to check, so here’s the list of everyone who’s playing.
