Rag Wrap – April 22, 2009
There’s a great new local music interview blog in town called The What of Whom. Check it out, they’ve got an awesome interview with local folk singer Loretta Lucas this week, and last week she talked to John Krautner of The Go about the recording of the band’s next album.
The Wonder Twins give a pretty good run down of last Friday’s Detroit Music Awards. Personally, I went down as a honoree percussion player in the “Most Outstanding Muggs Shout Out Band” The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre; however, I lost my camera battery and got really wasted. Fortunately, you can read about the drunken debauchery that I witnessed firsthand here and here.)
Heavy Media talks about the Silent Years.
Pitchfork reviews a fresh new track off of Nomo‘s upcoming album Invincible Cities. You can also watch a live performance of theirs from back in August at Amoeba Music.
Help Detroit out and go see Mason Proper (but no need to go all the way to Chicago, they ‘re playing the Pike Room on Sunday with the French Kicks)
Deep Cutz reviews the new self titled album by Friends of Denis Wilson.
Real Detroit asks the Timmy Vulgar three questions (seriously, you only posted three questions online? Where’s Deep Cutz when you need him?)
Rolling Stone Breaks down the “pill-popping” cover of Eminem‘s new album Relapse.
The international cartoon supergroup Gorillaz are the subject of a new documentary, Bananaz, which is streaming online for the next month. In it you can watch the recording of their collaboration with D12.
Lollapalooza’s 2009 lineup is announced (I give it a C- at best.)
