Rag Wrap – April 15, 2009
Dirtbombs make it on Amazon’s 100 all-time indy album list (so does the White Stripes‘ De Stijl, and if you take the work of John Lee Hooker & His Guitar out of the equation, this very well may be one of the best recordings ever be made in Detroit.)
The Silent Years have recently signed with SideCjho Records, they also have a new six track EP title Let Go coming out on July 17 (digitally through outlets like Amazon on April 21.) Media Junkie already has a review of the Silent Year’s Let Go.
Great Lakes Myth Society are releasing Compass Rose Bouquet on vinyl, unfortunately the Javelins had a little problem at the press and we will have to wait a few months for Heavy Meadows to come out on vinyl (one of the best albums of 08 by far.)
The Majestic has acquired that out-of-place building next door to it, and plans on further expanding the complex.
Ted Nugent will reunite his original ”garage rock band” the The Amboy Dukes on Friday night at the Detroit Music Awards; Metro times has a interesting Q & A with The Nuge, and so does Real Detroit (but as usual it’s much, much shorter.)
Ty Stone explains why “nothing sounds as cool as Detroit.”
Brighton based MyBandStock.com launches this week (Handyside has more.)
Metro Times also reports on Saturday’s “all-star” punk rock gathering at the Old Miami to celebrate incarcerated Graystone Hall promoter Cary Safarian.
Record Store Day is April 18th. Rock-A-Billy’s in Utica will have in-store performances, including Rodriguez and The Silent Years. Noted releases include re-issues of The MC5′s “Kick Out The Jams” and The Stooges’ “1969″, as well as The Dead Weather’s “Hang You From the Heavens”. (Rolling Stone has more on The Dead Weather.)
Does Eminem still matter? The Freep and at least one 13-year-old think so.

Does this mean no one will get towed if they park by that building?
