2 + 2 = ?
Powertrane get a shout out in the new Rolling Stone. Quoth David Fricke in ‘Fricke’s Picks’:
“Sung with a Michigan-rock vengeance from the point of view of a soldier up to his helmet in a firefight, the Bob Seger System’s 1968 grenade “2 + 2 = ?” – basically a searing fuzztone riff and a hellish-chant chorus– now sounds like great out-of-Iraq & roll. It’s also way too elusive on vinyl and CD, so Scott Morgan, one of Seger’s killer peers in the Sixties and Seventies, has cut the song with his band Powertrane for imminent release. While you wait to buy, play it loud at myspace.com/scottmorgandetroit.”

what a bullshit thing to do. our involvement in Iraq is winding down and troops will soon be withdrawn. this re-recording should have been done five years ago when it might have meant something. at least the dixie chicks had the balls to confront the warmongers. where were you then?

Dang Danny, you’re so right. It really means nothing. You know, cause things like this aren’t still happening every fucking day.

Not to mention the Afghanistan war and all the other bullshit the US military is engaged in all over the world. Yeah the war pigs are really winding down…?
Might makes right, it’s the AmeriKKKan way, right? Now go back to your death culture please. Nothing to see here.

The war in Afghanistan is against al Qaeda and the Taliban. Are you saying you’re against that war on the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11?
It may be fashionable to use KKK in a misspelling of America but you’re just alienating any potential sympathy to your cause when you do.
Death culture? spare me the hip elitism. I never said any of the things you argue against. I’m questioning the motivation behind re-doing 2+2=?. Anti-war profiteering? Jumping on the bandwagon?

It can be argued the song is even more poignant after 5 years of an unpopular war.

Remember when the Sights used to cover that song back in late 2001/2002 when the war was gearing up? That was with original member Mark Leahey on bass (who later fought in Iraq).
