My old college radio station Impact 89FM in East Lansing has put up a bunch of live videos from Mason Proper’s recent appearance on their local music show The Basement.
Check them out:
You can also catch a ton of live clips from the Hard Lesson’s performance on The Impact back in September.

Wouldn’t it be nice if Detroit had an impact style station in range?
The impact isn’t quite up to the standard of KEXP in Seattle, but its still great.
When you treat the airwaves and music like a public service and give people an alternative to music as a way to sell crap good things seem to happen.

Wayne State would be the only option, maybe Oakland University someday.

Every Tuesday night from 10 p.m.-midnight is Detroit Local 101 (hosted by myself and WRIF’s Suzy Cole). We’ve been doing it for three years now. Riff2 in general plays alot of local music, but Detroit Local 101 is two hours of local music. We’ve had special guests (from Electric Six, to Von Bondies to Noman) in the studio. It’s HD, so you have to have an HD radio to hear it (101.1 HD2), but you can also listen online.
I don’t know how much like the Impact it is, but it’s available to you, and it’s local, and there are no commercials. Add Riff2 as a friend on Myspace to be kept up to date about playlists and special guests. This isn’t new, either, we’ve been around for three years, we have thousands of friends on MySpace, and we run 1/4 page ads in the Metro Times almost every other week.

Detroit Local 101 is a great fixture for the scene. As cars keep transitioning over to digital radio receivers you guys will be top dog for local rock

I hope so, Dave!

Thanks for the Impact love!
We’re starting to get more Detroit-based bands on the Impact for interviews and performances. Most are appearing on our video section.
Let us know if there’s something we’re missing.
