Rock 101: Intro To Detroit Rock
When you look at the expansive history of Detroit rock you can’t help but be a little overwhelmed. With the likes of Ted Nuget, Bob Seger, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Wayne Kramer, Mitch Ryder, Fred Sonic Smith, Mark Farner, Ron Asheton, Glen Frey, Dick Wagner, Marshall Crenshaw, Doug Fieger, Cub Koda, Mick Collins, Don Was, Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker, Jack White & Brendan Benson… the list goes on and on and putting your hands around the important elements can be daunting to say the least.
Fortunately for us a popular professor at Wayne State University; Jason Schmitt, has recently finished his doctoral thesis at Bowling Green University on the complex history of Detroit rock and the unusual amount of success it has had over the past 30 years. It’s a great read and features never before published interviews with such important music industry icons as Slash, Jim Diamond, Mike Staff, Russ Gibb, Gary Grimshaw, Tom Wright, John Sinclair.

I’ve watched all the JSB Squad videos on youtube, they’re hilarious. Great music too. Who the hell calls a song “????” that’s great.
