Concert Review – Gore Gore Girls
Bellyache Records put on one of the best local shows I have yet to see this year (that even includes the Blowout) with this past Saturday night’s Gore Gore Girl’s concert at Northern Lights Lounge.
Openers Electric Fire Babies set the tone for the evening with their electronic, soul and guitar filled beats that I’m going to term “DJ Rock.” All local Detroit venues should take note: if you’re looking for a group that can deliver a party right to your stage, give the Electric Fire Babies a call.
Next up were The Uproars, which are The Muldoon family’s latest punk rock endeavor. Their set was impressively tight, filled with raw power and mixed with a splash of sophistication one would see in seasoned rock veterans. We can only speculate how many bands these boys will put together over the next thirty plus years, so get ready Detroit because if each and every one of them are going to be as powerful as The Uproars then we’re are all in for one fantastic musical ride.
Headlining the bill, the Gore Gore Girls really took the prize for the night. With anticipation for this show and their Bellyache Records record release building for weeks, the GGG brought the house down with a set that included several standout tracks off of their 2007 full length LP Get The Gore Out. The new song “Fight Fire” is fantastic live and meshed right in with their other song highlights: “Astral Man”, “All Grown Up”, “Fox In A Box” and “Sweet Potato.” Not only are the GGG smoking hot live, but they also brought along their three lovely backup singers, The Gorettes, to seduce every man in the house.
I have to say that this show was the perfect way for the Gore Gore Girls to kick off their upcoming European tour. Now many of you may not be aware of this, but Motorcityrocks.com has plenty of readers across Europe (especially in France). So, to our rock-loving brethren across the pond, enjoy having our Gore Gore Girls within your reach these coming months. However, I must forewarn you that these four gals will slam into you like a fright train and steal your heart on their way out of town.
