Detroit Blues Legend Uncle Jessie White Dies

January 31, 2008 by Senor Garo in Detroit Concerts with 0 Comments

Sad news from the MT Music Blahg – local blues legend Uncle Jessie White passed away Tuesday at the ripe old age of 87. As someone who’d taken in one of his blues jam sets at The Attic in Hamtramck before my departure for Colorado, I’ve gotta say that watching White play piano and sing felt like watching a living history of the blues. Hearing a man who’d played that style for such a long lifetime added resonance to the notes that lasted well beyond that night at the bar.

I should note that despite the sadness of this news, it still took me a good 10 minutes or so to pull myself away from yet another round of viewings of the ‘Dirty Show’ commercial Big Wave Dave posted earlier this week. Yowza!
