PEACEJAM WINS MAN FOR PEACE AWARD
PeaceJam, an organization founded by Detroiters Dawn Engle and Ivan Suvanjieff (aka Marky Ramrod), has been awarded the Man For Peace Prize by the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates and The Gorbachev Foundation. The award is given in the memory of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and PeaceJam participant Sir Joseph Rotblat, and “aims to recognise the merits of those people in the youth world, with which Joseph Rotblat was always an impassioned interlocutor, who have distinguished themselves particularly in their commitment in favour of peace and especially in spreading the word and supporting the work of the Nobel Peace Laureates.” Suvanjieff and Engle will be awarded the prize by President Mikhail Gorbachev in Rome, Italy, on November 24. On the entertainment side of the award, the winner is Bob Geldof. We took a quick poll of our readership to see which one they liked better – The Ramrods or the Boomtown Rats. The ‘Rods took it in a narrow margin of 4-3. Congrats to PeaceJam for this tremendous honor!
