transfer 749224 Concert Review: The Transfer @ The Shelter detroit concerts Sitting in the band’s van on the way to the gig, I realized how much drive our local bands have. While my hands were frozen, due to the broken heater, I sipped on my Corona for some form of warmth – it became clear…tonight’s show was as much about the DESIRE to rock out for themselves, as it was for the kids attending. An all ages’ show, on a Friday night brought out all the new-wave punk our fair city is hiding.

I missed the opener Auto-Reverse, but local boys Tripside and The Tranfer showed me there’s much more to local rock than our current baked in the 60′s craze. New Yorker’s Until Sunday helped spice it up a notch with their high-energy axe swinging – the snazziest stuff this side of Nirvana. Try to make it to some of these early night gigs, and see why there’s more than the garage to Detroit. — Christopher Chouinard
