CPOP Host Iggy Pop Artwork

Written by Sultan. Posted in Detroit Concerts

Detroit ultra-hip art gallery CPOP has been filled with artwork by Iggy Pop and the Stooges as well as creations of their punk rock legend friends. A hipster-packed opening was held on Saturday, February 7. Iggy was there in the flesh for a VIP shindig held from 6-8pm. MCR pal Lisa H. says “He looked really good – but so much shorter than I expected – I always thought him a tall, lanky dude…he was a little pin-striped wearin’ dapper man saturday nite…” The gallery opened to the public for a reception between 8 and 12pm. Lines of art buyers, Detroit rockers and even Kirk Gibson of D Tigers fame extended around the block for much of the evening.

Curated by High Priestess of Detroit Punk, Niagara, artwork by the following rockers is on display: Iggy Pop, Ron Asheton, Scott Asheton, Joey Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo), Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), King Buzzo (The Melvins), photographer Bob Gruen, MC5, Kembra Pfahler (The Voluptous Horror of Karen Black), John Holmstrom (Punk Magazine), Jerry Vile (Boners, Dirty), Ivan Suvanjieff (Ramords, The 27, Detroit Punks), photographer Leni Sinclair and Niagara.

Accompanying the sights of punk rock was the sounds of punk rock. Detroit’s Demolition Doll Rods played a rockin’ set to the art-gazing crowd. If you missed the opening, don’t fear – the show will run through March 2. More hot lowdown from our dear friend Mr. Gary (if you’re the one that bashed out my car window, pls note Gary’s Aside #2).
